FIRST LESSON - Introductions, greetings, verb 'be'


Identifying names
 (status - first name - surname)   Mr John Smith
Mr (m)  /mIstƏ/

Mrs (f - married)  / mIsIz/
Miss (f - not married)  /mIs/
Ms (f - private status)  /mIz/

Asking for permission

Informal:  Can I ....., please?   //    Can you ...., please? 
Semi-formal: Could I ...., plesae?  //   Could  you...., please? 
Formal:  May I ....., please?    //    May you....?  (Only with the first subject pronoun, 'I' and 'we')
Answer: Yes, you can.  / No, you can't. 

For example,
A: Can you repeat that, please?
B:  Of course.
  
A:  Could I open the window, please?
B:  Yes, you can.
